Bus / Van Accident Response Protocols

The following is a list of potential ways to serve/help in the event that a group traveling to or from High Point Camp would have an accident.  The distance the accident occurs from High Point Camp may determine the level of our involvement.

Collection and Coordination Point – Could HPC be place for those individuals involved in the accident, the parents/church members coming from out of town, and luggage to be collected in one central location.  HPC could facilitate the coordination of all these things.

Identification – In the event that individuals involved in the accident are spread across several local or semi-local hospitals, HPC could seek to identify where each person is located to help those coming in from out of town to find their loved ones.

Communication – HPC could serve as the communication hub to the church involved in the accident, to media sources (at the discretion of HPC media policies and policies of the church involved), to parents/loved ones, and to emergency response teams and police.

Hospitality – HPC could serve as an overnight accommodation for any loved ones that need it.  Food and beverage service could be provided to anyone on the camp property for an extended period.

Counseling Service – HPC, in conjunction with HPBC pastors and other local church leaders and counselors could provide counseling care to those involved in the accident and those loved ones coming in from out of town to help in the grieving process.

Media – If media are coming to HPC to cover the accident, have a designated place where they MUST remain.  Communication to them should happen in a formal, planned method.  As they are on private property, do not allow media to wander the campground/facility asking their own questions.  HPC could provide water, coffee, and light snacks for their comfort.  (Follow all media communication policies.)
