Type: A dodgeball style game that allows players to continue to play even after they are ‘out’.
Equipment/Needs: A large open, but confined space. (i.e. – gymnasium). Three dodgeball type balls.
Group Size: This game is ideal for a group of 20 – 50, depending on the size of the space you are playing in.
Play: Decide how many balls you are going to play with. Everyone starts off around the edges of the playing area. The balls are tossed in the air to start the game. Regular dodgeball rules apply.
- If you are hit with the ball, you are out.
- You may use a ball you are holding to deflect a thrown ball.
- If someone catches the ball that you have thrown, you are out.
- When a ball hits a wall, the ball is automatically dead. (This rule can be changed if you want.)
- When you are out, you kneel/sit down where you were hit…no matter where you are in the game area.
- Once you are in possession of a ball, you are only allowed three steps.
Once a player is out and kneeling/sitting, he is still eligible to play. If a ball rolls to him, he can attempt to throw it at a player that is still ‘in’. He can also attempt to catch a thrown ball from a player that is still ‘in’. If he is successful in either, he can re-enter the game and the other player is ‘out’. Because a player is only allowed three steps, he must either throw the ball at another player or roll it away so he can move again.
- In some cases, a player may roll the ball to someone who is ‘out’ in order for them to attempt to get someone out or to give it back to the original thrower allowing him to move. If a ball is tossed (to allow him to move) and is caught, he is out and the ‘out’ player is back ‘in’.
Play continues until one player is left standing or until a certain game time limit has finished.
